A good prompt is like a good brief: clear, contextualized, result-oriented. Here are the reflexes that make all the difference.

The winning structure
- Role: « You are an expert in… »
- Context: the audience, the goal, the constraints.
- Task: what you want precisely.
- Format: list, table, length, tone.
Common mistakes
Vague requests, lack of examples, asking everything at once. Proceed by iterations: refine the answer as the exchange progresses.
A good prompt avoids being too general. It’s like giving clear directions to a taxi driver: the more precise you are, the better the result.
An example
Instead of « write an email, » try: « You are the customer service manager. Write an apology email to a customer whose order is delayed, warm tone, 120 words, with a commercial gesture. »
If you ask an AI to « summarize a book, » it might give a vague overview. But if you say « Summarize *The Martian* in 5 bullet points, focusing on the protagonist’s survival strategies, in a tone suitable for a 12-year-old, » the result will be much more useful.
